The Vice President of the Moldovan Parliament Discussed with the President of Venice Commission about the Parliament’s Dissolution
The Parliament announces that the Socialist Vice President of the Parliament Vlad Batrîncea met in Strasbourg with the President of Venice Commission, Gianni Buquicchio, and discussed the latest decision of the Moldovan Constitutional Court regarding the dissolution of the Parliament.
According to the note published on the Parliament’s website, the socialist Vlad Batrîncea presented his position on the latest decision of the Constitutional Court regarding the circumstances that justify the dissolution of the Parliament. The Bătrîncea reiterated that the Constitutional Court’s decision contradicts the recommendations of the Venice Commission from 2019.
“The involvement of the Constitutional Court in political games, the biased interpretation of the Constitution, endangers the rule of law, the constitutional order, and the principles of continuity of power,” said Vlad Batrincea.
In this context, Batrîncea mentioned that the Chișinău Parliament advocates for a transparent and fair institutional dialogue, from equal positions. According to him, the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, faked the dialogue and approved selfish unilateral decisions.
The President of the Venice Commission said that they will make efforts directed to the political actors in Chișinău, both the Presidency and the Parliament, to raise awareness of the responsibility for the crisis and to find solutions through dialogue and consensus.
On Monday, April 19, the Socialist Vice President of the Parliament Vlad Batrîncea was unanimously elected Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe for the period 2021.
Early parliamentary elections will soon be held in Moldova. After several months of uncertainty, major changes are taking place on the political scene. The Constitutional Court decided on the existence of circumstances that would justify the dissolution of the Parliament. Thus, President Maia Sandu is to dissolve the Parliament and announce the date on which the early parliamentary elections will be held.
