The Ministry of Finance Proposes a New Financial Legislation for Companies Like Facebook and Google
International companies that provide certain services for individuals in Moldova, such as Facebook, Google or different electronic applications, may be required to register on Moldova’s territory and to pay the added value tax for these services. The proposal is included in the draft Law for the modification of some legislative acts concerning the fiscal and customs policy for 2020, proposed by the Ministry of Finance.
On November 25, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Finance, Dorel Noroc, presented the project at the meeting of the National Commission for collective consultations and negotiations.
“This measure concerns two important moments: we will have budget supplements of about €5.2 million (100 million lei) and we will ensure that for the non-residents and residents on Moldova’s market the same conditions are applied,” Noroc commented.
Contacted by ZdG, Vitalie Eșanu, IT entrepreneur, said that this will greatly slow the development of digital products and the Internet.
According to him, for Google and Facebook, it will not be a problem, but for companies in small countries, it will be a disaster.
“The project provides several measures that derive from the obligations of the Ministry of Finance and the Government to simplify the activity of the business environment, which means more clarity, less time and more certainty in the tax legislation in the process of paying, reporting and calculating taxes,” commented the Secretary of State commented.
According to the informative note, following the implementation of all the norms in the project, additional revenues amounting to around €9.3 million (180 million lei) will be accumulated in the budget.
