The EU Supports the Economic Growth of Seven Localities in Moldova through Financial Assistance of 2.6 Million Euros

The EU supports the economic growth of seven localities in Moldova through the financial assistance of 2.6 million euros, Government representatives announced on Wednesday, December 22nd.

According to the Executive, the award ceremony for the seven mayoralties of Moldova took place today within the “Mayors for Economic Growth” Initiative (M4EG), funded by the EU and implemented by UNDP.

“The grants are awarded to seven localities based on a rigorous application process and a competitive selection, organized between the Eastern Partnership countries. The total support of the “Mayors for Economic Growth” Initiative for seven local public authorities (LPAs) in Moldova is 2,915,533 euros, of which 2,595,829 euros are provided by the European Union and 319,719 euros are the contribution of the local public authorities,” it is shown in the informative note of the institution.

Four LPAs – Căușeni, Cărpineni, Șoldănesti and Ungheni – have signed a contract to deliver tangible results for local citizens, as a result of the call for proposals for “pilot projects” in the first stage of the program, launched in February 2021, which I note that the local authorities submit a project proposal for funding.

At the same time, three municipalities – Cahul, Călărași, and Ceadâr-Lunga – received grant certificates, as a result of the call for proposals “Portfolio and Innovation”, launched in June 2021. These three localities will go through the process of municipal transformation, being assisted along the way with financial support from the EU.

According to the Government, the town halls will implement the project proposals and will receive assistance in the period 2021–2024.
