Parliament appointed the members of the Commission for the evaluation of the integrity of judges and candidates for the position of judge of the Supreme Court of Justice
The Parliament approved at its sitting on Thursday, June 15, the draft resolutions on the appointment of members of the Commission for external evaluation of ethical and financial integrity of judges and candidates for the position of judge of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ).
The parliamentary faction “Action and Solidarity Party” proposed two candidates to the plenary of the Parliament: Iurie Gațcan and Andrei Bivol. The faction of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists also nominated Lilian Enciu. On the development partners’ side, Lavly Perling, Maria Giuliana Civinini and Scott Bales were selected on a competitive basis.
The evaluation committee consists of six members. Three members, citizens of the Republic of Moldova, are proposed by the parliamentary factions, taking into account the proportional representation of the majority and the parliamentary opposition, and three other members are nominated by development partners.
The draft decisions on the appointment of members to the Evaluation Commission on the external evaluation of the ethical and financial integrity of judges and candidates for the post of judge of the Supreme Court of Justice shall enter into force on the date of their adoption.
The Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) published on Tuesday, 13 June, the list of persons who have submitted applications to participate in the competition to fill vacancies at the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ).
Twenty-two applications were submitted to fill 20 vacancies for judges and legal professionals at the SCJ. They are the acting Prosecutor General, the acting Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organised Crime and Special Cases, a member of the High Council of Prosecutors, the Director of the Justice Programme of the Legal Resources Centre of Moldova, lawyers, judges from the Chisinau and Criuleni courts, as well as from the Chisinau and Balti Courts of Appeal.
