Moldova to Open a Consulate in Barcelona, Spain

Moldova’s  Cabinet of Minister approved a draft decision on the opening of a consular office in Barcelona, Spain, during a Government meeting on October 9, 2019.

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, the decision comes after several requests from the Moldovan diaspora in Spain.

According to the draft decision, “The creation of a consular post in the city of Barcelona (Spain) is imperative, motivated by the presence in this region of a very large number of citizens of the Republic of Moldova (the creation of this consular post will also cover consular assistance for nationals in the south of France).”

The decision also comes “in response to multiple requests from the diaspora to facilitate applications for consular services in Spain.”

Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation shared its consent for the opening of a Moldovan Consulate in Barcelona, as well.

Currently, Moldova has only one diplomatic mission in Spain, the Embassy of Moldova in Madrid.
