Lilian Chișca, appointed President of ANI. The decree was signed by Maia Sandu

Lilian Chișca has been appointed as the new president of the National Integrity Authority (ANI). The decree was signed by President Maia Sandu on 22 May and published in the Official Gazette of Moldova on 24 May 2023.

Lilian Chișca is a lawyer by profession. In May 2014, Chișca was appointed head of the Income and Property Control Directorate of the National Integrity Commission (CNI) after previously serving as a consultant in the same directorate. Prior to joining the NIC, Chișcă worked as a senior inspector at the National Anti-Corruption Centre (NAC) and previously as a consultant at the Moldovan Chamber of Licensing. In 2017, he was appointed vice president of the NIA.

On 7 April 2023, the Integrity Council approved the final score obtained by the candidates in the competition for the position of ANI President. According to the decision, ANI Vice-President Lilian Chișca accumulated the highest score and won the competition for the institution’s head. On 20 April, the Integrity Council validated the results of the competition.

According to the Law on ANI, the Authority is headed by a president, assisted by a vice-president, who are appointed by the President of Moldova on the proposal of the Integrity Council. The term of office of the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the Authority is 5 years, without the possibility of appointment for another term.

The National Integrity Authority ensures integrity in the exercise of public office or public dignity and the prevention of corruption by controlling assets and personal interests and compliance with the legal regime of conflicts of interest, incompatibilities, restrictions and limitations. The public authority is independent from other public organisations, from other legal persons of public or private law and from natural persons, operating at national level as a single structure.
