Bomb alert at Chișinău International Airport, Parliament, Government and all offices of the Chișinău Court. Details from the Moldovan Police

The Moldovan police announced that around 14:05 on July 5 it was notified via e-mail that several state institutions (Parliament, Government, judicial institutions, shopping centres, hospitals, Chisinau International Airport) had been mined.

“Specialized services were directed to the scene to establish all the circumstances,” law enforcement officials announced in a statement.

Law enforcement officials were alerted on Tuesday, July 5, about a possible mining of the Chișinău International Airport and the Chișinău Court premises. The information was confirmed to Ziarul de Gardă by Diana Fetco, Head of the Communication and Protocol section of the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), and Natalia Stati, press officer of the Chișinău Police Department.

“Colleagues have mobilised to secure these institutions,” said Diana Fetco.

The bomb alert at the Parliament was confirmed to ZdG by the press service of the legislature, which said that MPs and employees of the Parliament have been evacuated and police are checking the building.

On the evening of Monday, July 4, the Moldovan Border Police announced for the second time that day that it had been alerted to the presence of explosives at Chisinau International Airport. According to the border police, an e-mail was received from an unknown person, stating that the airport was mined and asking for financial compensation. After nearly three hours of checks, the Border Police announced that the bomb alert at the airport has been proven to be false and normal operations have resumed. On Monday morning, July 4, border guards at the Chisinau International Airport crossing point were alerted to a possible bomb threat at the airport. All travellers were evacuated from the airport during the security checks.

Minister of Justice Sergiu Litvinenco later came with a reaction on his Facebook page.

„Bandit methods of acting do not change with the passage of time. Do you remember the day of June 7, 2019, when Plahotniuc, unwilling to accept his removal from the buttons of power, organized all sorts of “bomb scares” in Parliament and other state institutions? Then lo and behold – today the Ciocana court is examining the prosecutors’ request for Plahotniuc’s arrest (in cuntumăcie, i.e. unjustified absence) and we are again witnessing the same “bomb alert” ” said the Minister. He also mentioned that additional measures have to be taken so that liability for such acts matches its gravity.
