Searches at Comrat City Hall in a case of abuse of office: City Hall decision-makers favoured three economic agents in public procurement procedures – National Anti-Corruption Centre
Officers of the South Territorial General Directorate (DGT) of the National Anti-Corruption Centre (CNA) and prosecutors of the South office of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA) are carrying out criminal prosecution actions at the headquarters of the Comrat City Hall. The raids are being carried out in a criminal case of abuse of office in which a deputy mayor and a specialist of the City Hall, as well as three economic agents are targeted, CNA reports.
According to the materials of the case, decision-makers of the Comrat City Hall, using their work situation and acting out of material and personal interest, favoured and would continue to favour three economic agents in public procurement procedures.
“The fact of favoring the economic agents is found by the contracts signed by them with the City Hall, worth 135 million lei, during the period 2019-2022. This is in a situation where the City Hall decision-makers knew that all the companies are managed by the same family, use the same machinery and technical equipment, and the staff indicated in the tenders is one and the same for all 3 companies.
Thus, on the morning of 7 November, DGT South officers and anti-corruption prosecutors raided one of the deputy mayors of the Comrat City Hall, a City Hall specialist and the office, where the 3 economic agents operate,” the CNA announced in a statement.
Currently, criminal prosecution actions are taking place and all persons concerned in the case are being investigated in freedom. The South Office of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office is leading the prosecution.
The CNA notes that all persons are presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is rendered.
