Raids in a case where a lawyer allegedly bribed a prosecutor for a “favourable decision”
Prosecutors and officers searched the offices and homes of a prosecutor and a lawyer who are targeted in a corruption case. The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA) announced that on Friday, 16 September, a lawyer was detained in flagrante delicto for acts of corruption, manifested by the transmission of a bribe in the amount of €10,000 to a prosecutor in order for the latter to adopt a favourable decision on a criminal case under his management.
“Following the cooperation of a declarant with the authorities, it was established that the latter had passed on to the lawyer in the first instalment, money in the amount of €7,000 in the form of a bribe,” the PA states.
Thus, as a result of the prosecution activities carried out and special investigative measures, on Friday the lawyer was detained immediately after obtaining a favourable decision from the prosecutor and, respectively, after accepting the second instalment of the bribe in the amount of €3,000.
The prosecutor’s office notes that the operations are being carried out with the support of officers from the Internal Protection and Anti-Corruption Service (SPIA) of the Ministry for Internal Affairs.
Prosecutors will inform about the results of the prosecution actions on the case at a later stage, “to the extent that the presentation of data from the file will not jeopardise the proper conduct of criminal investigations,” the PA notes.
