Representatives of a construction company under investigation for influence peddling
The director of a construction company in Chisinau and her deputy are under criminal investigation for influence peddling, after they allegedly promised several investors that they would solve the problem of commissioning a housing block in the Râșcani sector of the capital by influencing members of the commission for the final reception of the construction to sign the act.
On the morning of Tuesday 16 August, the National Anti-Corruption Centre (CNA) and prosecutors raided the company’s director and her deputy, the latter being detained for 72 hours.
Following the searches, the mobile phones of the suspects were seized, as well as draft documents with the record of illegal funds, claimed and received for the signing of the final acceptance report. All the circumstances related to the construction of the block are currently being investigated, including issues related to the involvement of other responsible persons,” a statement published by the CNA said.
During the investigations, it was found that in 2012, 49 people allegedly invested in apartments in a block of flats, the construction of which has still not been completed. According to the investors, company representatives promised them that they could influence the members of the final acceptance committee to put the building into operation. For signing the minutes, the company’s representatives allegedly collected 150 euros from 35 families, which they passed on to the committee members.
The Anti-Corruption prosecutor’s office is conducting the criminal prosecution.
