Former defector MP Eugeniu Nichiforciuc, indicted for corruption: he promised a deputy 350,000 euros to leave the Communists and vote for bills submitted by the PDM
Anti-corruption prosecutors announced on Thursday, July 21, that a former MP has been indicted for corruption. According to ZdG’s law enforcement sources, it is the former defector MP, elected on the Democratic Party’s lists, Eugeniu Nichiforciuc, who is also a close associate of former Democratic leader Vladimir Plahotniuc.
According to the evidence administered by prosecutors, it was found that during May-July 2016, the former deputy while in the sitting hall of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, personally and on behalf of the Democratic Party promised a member of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, foreign currency in the amount of 350 000 euros, which is the equivalent of 7 777 650 lei, so that the latter would leave the faction of the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova in the Parliament and vote on bills submitted by the Democratic Party.
Therefore, prosecutors state that criminal prosecution actions on this case are ongoing, and we will come back with updated information when new circumstances arise.
“At the same time, we would like to assure that the criminal investigations on this case are carried out within the limits of the criminal procedural legislation, respecting all rights and freedoms of the person concerned, ensuring the principle of presumption of innocence, confidentiality of criminal proceedings, respect for privacy and personal data,” prosecutors note.
Eugeniu Nichiforciuc became a member of Parliament in 2014 after a failed attempt in the early elections in 2010, and he will not be in Parliament in the early elections in July 2021. Nichiforciuc was deputy director of SA “Terconvit” from May 2014 to February 2015. According to RISE Moldova, he is or was a partner in the following companies: Kipper Trans SRL (50%), Liquid Petroleum Products SRL (50%), Max Ball SRL (40%), Petrol Agent Grup SRL (75%) and Trans Agent Grup SRL (50%). In 2017, he was mentioned in the list of millionaires (in Moldovan lei) in the Moldovan Parliament, ranking third. More than half of his income came from the repayment by his company Trans Agent Grup SRL of a loan of 1.73 million lei and the payment of dividends of more than 900,000 lei. In 2010-2011 he was a member of the United Moldova Party, led by Vladimir Turcan, where he ran for deputy in the 2010 early elections. He left the party in 2011, accusing Turcan of falsifying Republican Congress documents. He also joined the Democratic Party of Moldova. Since May 2012, he has been deputy secretary general of the PDM. He participated in the 2014 parliamentary elections as the 21st candidate on the list of candidates for the DPM, winning his first parliamentary mandate. He was re-elected as a deputy in the 2019 elections in the constituency No. 8 Floresti.
