Last month, ZdG collected readers’ dreams as part of the newspaper’s anniversary campaign, “We offer dreams as a gift.” We received dozens of pleasant messages and dreams. All beautiful and important for our readers.

“I do not want much money or fortune. I am longing for health and a … mattress. I’m immobilized in bed, and a good mattress would help me a lot,” wrote Timofei Catran in his letter, from the village of Bădicul Moldovenesc village in Cahul. Timofei has  subscribed to ZdG for 10 years, and he rereads the content of the publication whenever he has some spare time.

Mihai Eladi has been reading Ziarul de Garda since 2011. As long as he was employed he could afford to subscribe. Since he retired, there is not enough money for subscription anymore. Nevertheless, he saves as much as he can and every Thursday he buys the newspaper at the kiosk. He has many dreams, but the most coveted is a Dictionary of the Romanian language. “I have a fridge that is over 40 years old, which should be changed. And an old wool mattress that is getting thinner and thinner. Yet, I want a modern Dictionary of the Romanian language most! So that I can feast on the richness of the Romanian language,” wrote Mihai Eladi from Anenii Noi.

Nina Spoiala is from the village Zarnesti, Cahul. She has had many dreams in her 72-year-old life, yet none of them came true. She only got herself a stick in consequence of a road accident 12 years ago. Because she is so modest, she wouldn’t tell us about her current dream. But she thanked us for our work and asked us to protect ourselves from enemies.

“I have been reading ZdG since 2009, immediately after the April 7 events. My son was arrested and beaten then. I wouldn’t change this newspaper for anything. I helped other people to subscribe. I subscribed the village school to ZdG for some time. Later, I gave up. I realized that school children do not want to read. But I continued the local library’s subscription. After I read ZdG carefully, I send the newspaper to the Asylum for Old People in Valeni, Cahul. You are really brave! I think it’s the most powerful newspaper which tells the truth daily. Anyway, take care of yourselves, after all the truth you write about, you are sure to have enemies. May God have mercy on you! I wish you all good health, success, patience and courage,” Nina Spoiala said.

“Dreams are rarely fulfilled. Especially those of people over 70 years old. We expect that we get into the world of the righteous, but God gives us days and strength to survive. I had many dreams in my life, but few were fulfilled. Anyway, I have achieved much through honest work. Currently I think the dreams of many people are about changing one’s mentality. So that rulers of the country no longer betray us. We wish the new government thought of retirees’ needs.”

This is an extract from a letter we received from Liubovi Golub from Cineseuti village in Rezina. “Last year one of my dreams came true. A former student subscribed me and a colleague of mine to Ziarul de Garda. But I have one more dream. A refrigerator. I have had my old one for 46 years already. I’m afraid it may stop working at any moment, and there is no money to buy a new one,” wrote Liubovi  Golub.

Readers who only recently have subscribed to Ziarul de Garda also wrote to us to say they are happy with the newspaper’s content. Zinaida Negara is from Chisinau and she has subscribed to ZdG for 2 years. She mainly reads the political news, because her profession is directly related to this field. She is in the public service. She reads ZdG news, because she finds it the most objective and credible, sufficiently argued and researched. She likes the news related to journalistic investigations on various topics and appreciated a lot the one revealing the subject of the beggars’ network in Chisinau. Zinaida told us of her dream. A bicycle. “So far, I have not managed to get one, I’m saving the necessary amount now. I want so much to be able to come to work by bike every day. I wish more and more people adopted ecological solutions in their daily activities,” Zinaida Negara wrote.

“I would very much like to celebrate the New Year with my family in Sharm El Sheikh. We long for this, but it is quite impossible, given the financial situation.” This is the dream of Andrei Ilco from Chisinau. He has subscribed to Ziarul de Garda for 10 years and he likes the articles written by the editorial team. “Only ZdG has the latest news, the best journalists and always tells the things as they are.” Although for a period of time he had to subscribe to other newspapers, shortly after he gave them up and went back to reading ZdG.

“I’m happy with the content of this newspaper and I would not change anything in it. You’re the best and I keep reading your newspaper with great interest,” wrote Silvia Baxan from Risipeni village, Falesti. Her dream is dental treatment for her two children.

“I would like my children to have a nice smile. They shouldn’t suffer anymore from dental problems,” Silvia confessed.
