Health Minister Ala Nemerenco announced that Russian missiles that struck the Odessa region last night damaged one of the buildings of the Children’s Rehabilitation Centre in Sergheevca belonging to the Moldovan Ministry of Health. According to the minister, five staff members of the centre are injured and one has died, all of whom live in the building that was damaged by the shelling.

“The Ministry of Health owns renovated rehabilitation centre for children in Sergheevca. It offers children with health problems in the Republic of Moldova the opportunity to benefit from rehabilitation medical services on the Black Sea coast. The Centre was not seriously damaged by the attack. But it was with regret that we were informed that 5 staff members of the Centre were injured and one died, all of them living in the building that was damaged by the bombing.” reads a post by Health Minister Ala Nemerenco.

The Minister also expressed condolences and sympathy to the family of the deceased employee and has emphasized the important role the workers there have in making the days of Moldovan children more beautiful.

On the night between 30 June – 1 July, the Russians launched missiles over the Odessa region. Several civilian locations were hit, with at least 20 people killed and 38 injured.

The Children’s Rehabilitation Centre “Sergheevca” is the only institution of its kind that Moldova has on the Black Sea coast of Ukraine. The sanatorium receives more than 20 million lei annually from the Moldovan state budget for the rehabilitation of children with various chronic diseases. Benefiting from money from Chisinau, the medical institution in Sergheevca has been almost completely renovated in recent years, and the accommodation and treatment conditions offered are now far superior to any state medical institution in Moldova.
