BREAKING NEWS: Ilan Shor Left Without Parliamentary Immunity
The runaway deputy of the parliament Ilan Shor remains without parliamentary immunity and could be arrested and tried. On Thursday, December 23, the Parliament approved the nine requests submitted by the interim general prosecutor Dumitru Robu regarding the approval of the lifting of the parliamentary immunity of the deputy.
Interim Prosecutor General Dumitru Robu submitted nine requests to Parliament on Thursday, December 16, requesting the agreement to waive the immunity of fugitive deputy Ilan Șor, detaining, arresting, searching and prosecuting him on nine charges, including – fraud, money laundering, creation or management of a criminal organization, false statements, but also embezzlement of foreign assets and abuse of office.
The president of the Shor Party, Ilan Shor, sentenced in 2017 to seven years and six months in prison for fraud and money laundering, fled Moldova and is wanted internationally.
On August 20, after 10 failed attempts, the Supreme Court of Justice magistrates accepted the request submitted by the lawyer Denis Calaida and ordered the transfer of the criminal case from the Court of Appeal Cahul to the Court of Appeal Chișinău. The decision was pronounced by the Criminal College of the Supreme Court of Justice in the composition of the magistrates – Nadejda Toma, Ion Guzun, and Anatolie Țurcan.
Ilan Șor, who is banned from leaving the country, appeared in the public space for the last time on June 12, 2019, during a press conference. It was two days before the Democratic Party of Moldova relinquished power and joined the opposition.
On July 30, 2019, the Ministry of Internal Affairs declared that Ilan Șor had left the country illegally and that he had been announced wanted nationally and internationally. On August 15, 2019, at the request of the interim general prosecutor, Dumitru Robu, the deputies deprived Ilan Shor of parliamentary immunity.
A few days later, the case was linked to a criminal case on the table of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office since December 4, 2014, which aims to the billion-dollar bank fraud and committing other criminal acts in order to achieve personal and group interests.
On August 23, 2019, the head of the INTERPOL office in Moldova declared for ZdG that Ilan Shor is in Israel, a state of which he holds citizenship.
On July 30, 2019, the Ministry of Internal Affairs declared that Ilan Shor had left the country illegally and that he had been announced wanted nationally and internationally.
On August 15, 2019, at the request of the then interim Prosecutor General, Dumitru Robu, the deputies deprived Ilan Shor of parliamentary immunity.
