President of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, had a meeting with the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, on Wednesday, September 29, during his official visit to Moldova.
Igor Grosu welcomed the delegation led by Frank-Walter Steinmeier and said that it was an honor for the legislative institution to host this first official visit of a German President.
According to the note of the Parliament, Grosu conveyed to the German authorities and people the gratitude for the help given to Moldova over time, both bilaterally and in an international context.
“It is difficult to estimate the value of your country’s assistance to Moldova and its citizens. Germany is a very good friend and partner, I am sure that these relations will develop further,” said Igor Grosu.
According to the President of the Parliament, the Moldovan-German Business Forum, which took place in Chișinău, will start new economic contacts between the companies of the two countries.
Grosu appreciated the German Bundestag Program for graduates of higher education institutions in Moldova – an excellent opportunity to learn about the best practices of genuine parliamentary democracy.
The President of the Parliament assured the high German official that the authorities will make every effort to democratize and Europeanize the country.
“The EU is the strategic partner of Moldova. We will work closely to promote key reforms, strengthen state institutions, improve people’s lives,” said Igor Grosu.
Frank-Walter Steinmeier welcomed the developments in Moldova and stressed that thanks to the major political change, Moldova is becoming an interesting partner for many countries in the European Union.
The Federal President encouraged the Chișinău authorities in their efforts to reform the judiciary, fight corruption, improve governance, and assured that Germany will support progress in the transparency and European modernization of Moldova.
Frank-Walter Steinmeier specified that, after the announced assistance of 10 million euros, other financial support programs in key sectors will follow.
The visit of the federal president took place, according to an informative note of the Presidency, as a sign of support for the reform course followed by the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, and the Prime Minister, Natalia Gavrilița.
