Moldova will receive 46.5 million US dollars from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in 2019. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Maia Sandu, following talks with representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) during a visit to Chisinau.
At the same time, the parties agreed to extend the program of financial assistance to Moldova until March 2020.
“ The 4th and 5th evaluations of the IMF program took place, following the agreement, we agreed that Moldova could have access to $ 46.5 million in 2019. We also agreed to extend the program with IMF by March 2020, in order to benefit from all EU macro-financial assistance only available in such a case,” the prime minister said.
Mission Representative Ruben Atoyan has confirmed Prime Minister’s statements on establishing a set of measures to balance Moldova’s budget so as to reduce the tax burden for low-income citizens.

“The program was suspended due to the inappropriate decisions of the previous Government, especially those related to the fiscal amnesty, but also other decisions that unbalanced R. Moldva’s budget. We have agreed to concrete decisions and measures that would rebalance the budget and allow for all important salary-related spending, especially for socially vulnerable groups, to be paid, ” says Maia Sandu .
In this respect, Parliament will meet in a special session in August to make major changes to the state budget.
Maia Sandu also added that the successful negotiations with the IMF opened the door to EU grants amounting to 1.368 billion lei – money that could be added to the state budget.
