Moldovan and Portuguese Ministers of Foreign Affairs met in New York
The Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nicu Popescu met Augusto Santos Silva, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Portuguese Republic, at the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The Lisbon authorities fully support the European course of Moldova.
During the meeting, the two diplomats pointed out the role of the Moldovan community in Portugal, agreeing that it brings a value-added contribution to the development of Portuguese society and bilateral relations. At the same time, the foreign ministers agreed to organize an exchange of experience on public policies in the field of diaspora with an emphasis on digitalization and modern consular services.
“We will continue our diplomatic efforts to improve the Moldovan-Portuguese legal framework for the benefit of our citizens settled in Portugal and we have expressed our country’s interest in drawing on Portugal’s experience in the field of environment, water management, organic farming, industry, protection, and conservation of national architectural heritage,” declared the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nicu Popescu.
At the same time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs addressed the Portuguese counterpart’s request to examine the recognition of vaccination certificates issued by the Moldovan authorities in order to ensure unrestricted travel to Portugal.
