The EPP Welcomes the Constitutional Court’s Decision on Parliament Dissolution
Representatives of the EPP welcome the Constitutional Court’s decision on the existence of circumstances that justify the dissolution of Parliament and call for political formations to ensure free and fair elections. The MEP Siegfried Mureşan said that early parliamentary elections are the only solution for Moldova’s situation.
In a message posted on Twitter, EPP members announced that they welcomed the decision of the High Court and stated that they called on the political parties in Chișinău to respect the rule of law and to ensure that the early parliamentary elections were held correctly.
“The European People’s Party welcomes the decision of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova which paves the way for elections and calls on all political forces to respect the rule of law and to ensure free and fair elections. Moldovan voters deserve a legitimate, representative parliament and a stable reformist government”, the message posted on Twitter by EPP members shows.
The MEP Siegfried Mureşan, chairman of the European Parliament Delegation to the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee, also commented on the event. He wrote that early parliamentary elections are the only solution for Moldova’s situation. According to Siegfried Mureșan, “the clearer the pro-European majority will be in the future Parliament, the more possibilities for help and cooperation between the Parliament Moldova and the European Parliament will exist”.
“Now, Moldova needs a stable and legitimate government, supported by a credible and transparent parliamentary majority. Early elections are the only solution to the deadlock in Moldova at the moment. In the November 2020 presidential election, people voted for a candidate who wants a reformed, modern country close to the European Union and institutions that work in the interests of the people. This wish can become a reality if the early parliamentary elections result in a reformist parliamentary majority, which will modernize Moldova together with President Maia Sandu. We, the European Parliament, want to help the citizens of Moldova as much as possible. The clearer the pro-European majority will be in the future Parliament, the more opportunities for help and cooperation there will be between the Moldovan Parliament and the European Parliament,” the MEP wrote on Facebook.
