Shor Party Deputies Investigated in the Billion-Dollar Bank Fraud
The Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo requested the Parliament today to lift the immunity of the Shor Party deputies Petru Jardan and Denis Ulanov. The two are investigated in the billion-dollar bank fraud, abuse of power, and money laundering.
The Prosecutor’s Office announced that they have gathered conclusive evidence of Ulanov’s involvement in the billion-dollar bank fraud and money laundering. Both crimes committed in particularly large proportions and in the interests of a criminal association. The other deputy, Petru Jardan allegedly committed an abuse of office in particularly large proportions, in the interest of an organized criminal group and damaging the State Enterprise Chișinău International Airport. Once the Parliament will vote to lift the deputies’ immunity, the prosecutors will detain, arrest, search and prosecute Ulanov and Jardan.
Denis Ulanov is one of Ilan Shor’s lawyers in the criminal case related to the billion-dollar bank fraud. The deputy stated that he will vote to lift his own immunity and asks his party colleagues to do so too saying he has nothing to hide. Petru Jardan held several important positions in businesses affiliated with Ilan Shor. Since 2013, he has been the director of the Avia Invest company, which manages the Chișinău International Airport following a public-private partnership contract concluded in suspect circumstances.
According to the President of the Parliament, the voting will be next week.
“The requests need to be examined by the Legal Appointments and Immunities Commission in the Parliament with the Prosecutor General and the accused present at the meeting,” said Zinaida Greceanîi, president of the Parliament.
The commission chairman Vasile Bolea said they will meet tomorrow to examine the issue.
The Democratic Party deputy Monica Babuc claims that they will take the decision after the commission will meet.
“The Democratic Party needs to know the documents that the Prosecutor General presented to us, we must also take into account the opinion of the commission in order to make a decision next week,” said the Democrat Babuc during a press briefing.
