Gavrilița’s Government Rejected and New Candidates Proposed
Natalia Gavrilița’s candidacy for the prime minister position was rejected. The Socialist Party proposed instead a new candidate, Mariana Durleșteanu. The Shor Party, the For Moldova faction, and the Socialist Party formed a new parliamentary majority.
Today, February 11, the Parliament was to vote for the appointed prime minister, Natalia Gavrilița. The candidate did not receive the deputies’ vote.
“No hands raised, zero votes, that’s how I see it. Congratulations to the nominated prime minister,” said the Socialist president of the parliament.
The Socialist Party nominated Mariana Durleșteanu, their own candidate for the position of prime minister. It happened after the Socialists announced that they will not support the candidacy of Natalia Gavrilița. The Socialist Party, the For Moldova faction, and the Shor Party officially formed a parliamentary majority. The Socialist’s leader, Igor Dodon declared that “a technical parliamentary majority is formed to get the country out of chaos.” He claims that the Government proposed by the Socialist Party will have a transitional mandate.
The party Dignity and Truth Platform proposed their candidate too. They say that they are ready to assume a Government and has requested immediate consultations with president Maia Sandu. Dignity and Truth Platform nominated their party leader, Andrei Năstase, to the position of prime minister. The statements were made during a press briefing.
“Our solution is firm: we assume the governance and guarantee an efficient administration of the country, including the efficient management of the pandemic,” said Andrei Năstase.
