When can macrofinancial assistance be resumed, according to EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn
Macrofinancial assistance of one hundred million Euros could be unlocked this fall. The statement was made by the European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy, Johannes Hahn, who was on a work visit to Chisinau today.
“I have submitted previous Prime Minister Filip in September a list of areas where we expect changes or improvements. I have every trust and confidence that the new Government is urgently addressing these and I am confident that we can resume macrofinancial assistance in the course of autumn, beginning with September,” said Johannes Hahn.
The European Commissioner also said that the EU is willing to offer Moldova assistance, including through international experts, to help the country implement the reforms.
“I express my gratitude for the peaceful transition of power. It was an expression of political maturity. We are ready to provide assistance and bring international experts at your request. The fight against corruption is important and requires international support. We have the experience of other countries, which we can also implement in Moldova,” the European official said.
In July 2018, a Resolution on the political crisis in Moldova was adopted in the European Parliament with a vote of 343 MPs, calling on the European Commission to suspend budget support for Moldova.
