President Maia Sandu had a meeting on Wednesday, January 13, with the head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, Claus Neukirch. The officials discussed several topical issues, in particular, the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict.
“We emphasized that we support the exclusively peaceful principle, through political and diplomatic means, in resolving the conflict and any speculations on the subject of aggressive intentions are just challenges and intentional misinformation. There are no prerequisites for a conflict. The citizens of the Transnistrian region are citizens of Moldova, and there is no misunderstanding or enmity between the inhabitants on the two shores of Dniester River”, the president says.
The two officials discussed the progress of the negotiation process and the need to focus on constructive issues.
“The 5 + 2 format remains the basic platform for the negotiation process, which must work in the interests of the people. Important topics are human rights and socio-economic issues,” the president says.
The Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova stressed that the fight against corruption and smuggling is one of the most important priorities of his mandate.
