Moldova’s new Government in foreign media
Press publications from around the world are covering the current political events in Moldova where a new government is fighting the former oligarchic regime to assume power.
In the United States, newspapers from the left to the right side of the political spectrum, such as the New York Times, the Washington Post, Fox News, appear to concur on noting that a new government is fighting the former oligarchic regime to assume its vested power. The newspapers highlight that in an area previously described by tensions between Russia and the West, the political events in Moldova are “a rare point of unity between Moscow, Washington and Brussels.”
Mr. Plahotniuc has become so divisive a figure that he has managed to unite parties as different as the Socialists and the Now Platform, which have radically opposing attitudes to European integration. The Socialists want to retain Moldova’s historic ties to Russia, while the Now Platform believes the country, once part of Romania, has a future within the European Union,” writes the New York Times.
Bloomberg further explains that while Russia and the European Union have not hesitated to voice support of the new government in Moldova, the US seemed to avoid taking sides when calling from restraint and dialogue from all parties. Other publications from around the world that wrote on Moldova’s new Government’s fight to assume power include Deutsche Welle, the Telegraph, Kommersant, Euronews and others.
