Changing the mixed electoral system and setting the date for local elections on Parliament’s agenda
After the Parliament’s Permanent Bureau meeting, Socialists Ion Ceban and Vlad Bătrîncea announced the following subjects were introduced on the agenda of the Parliament session: amending the Electoral Code with a view to changing the mixed system and setting the date for local elections.
“We understand very well that there are enormous pressures on local public administration, district councils, town and village councils, including elected mayors. We understand clearly how the Democratic Party reached to include 700 mayors from the initial 200 mayors. We understand that these people were influenced including through criminal methods. We appeal to the local public administration: you are independent, the citizens’ vote is yours. Explaining for each councilor, each mayor in the Republic of Moldova: the change is coming and the local elections will take place, so you have no business with the Democratic Party leaving power. (…) We call for calm: the parliamentary majority has a well-established plan, we have a very clear agenda, we have all the support from outside and from within the country, PSRM deputy Vlad Bătrincea said.
