The COVID-19 Vaccine in Moldova
Officials from the Ministry of Health announced that Moldova presented to COVAX platforms requests to obtain the vaccine against COVID-19.
Following the discussions with specialists and in collaboration with WHO and UNICEF, the Ministry of Health requested to ensure the vaccine delivery in optimal conditions and to determine the mechanisms for organizing the immunization.
The target groups are a priority. The Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations, through the COVAX platform, ensures coverage of 20% of the country’s population free of charge. The target groups are medical workers; adults over 65 years of age and comorbidities; people in temporary or long-term placement centers; people with comorbidities; social workers; workers in the education field and those in security bodies. Subsequently, depending on the availability of the vaccine, other groups will be vaccinated.
COVAX will do this by acting as a platform to support the research, development, and manufacture of a wide range of COVID-19 vaccines. All the participating countries, regardless of income levels, will have equal access to these vaccines as they are developed.
