Filip’s decree, published in the Official Monitor. What happens to Dodon’s decrees
Today’s edition of the Official Monitor publishes the decree of interim president Pavel Filip, whereby Parliament’s 10th legislature is dissolved and the date of the early elections is set.
The Monitor, however, did not publish the other decrees signed this week by President Igor Dodon, through which a new government headed by Maia Sandu was invested.
We contacted several phone numbers listed on the Official Monitor website to get a reaction but the institution’s employees did not want to answer our questions.
I first called the Executive Secretary’s phone number. A man responded on the phone and refused to introduce himself and talk to the ZdG reporters, saying he accidentally picked up the phone. We then called the editor’s phone number, who said he did not want to talk to the press because journalists always interpret. The publisher, in turn, said he was not empowered to talk to us, and redirected us to the secretary-general, who did not respond to our calls.
On the evening of Friday, June 7, 2019, the Constitutional Court, controlled by PDM exponents, said that any action by the Parliament was illegal, arguing that according to the law, the three-month deadline to vest the new government expired on June 7.
However, on Saturday, June 8, the coalition formed by PSRM and the ACUM Bloc, initially voted Zinaida Greceanîi in the role of speaker of parliament. Subsequently, after consulting the parliamentary factions of PSRM and ACUM Bloc, Igor Dodon designated Maia Sandu as candidate to the role of Prime-Minister.
Shortly thereafter, addressed by PD, the Constitutional Court decided in a timely fashion, wihtout seeing the Parliament decrees, that Parliament’s activity is illegal, as well as the naming of the new Government and Speaker. Afterwards, again at the summons of the democratic deputies (PD), the Constitutional Court suspended Igor Dodon from office, while Pavel Filip as interim President dissolved the Parliament and declared that early parliamentary elections will take place on September 6th.
