The Moldovan Authorities Announce the Former Leader of the Democrat Party Vladimir Plahotniuc Left Turkey’s Territory
The former Democrat Party’s leader is no longer in Turkey. The Prosecutor General’s Office announced about receiving an official response from the Ankara authorities. Vladimir Plahotniuc was in Turkey and left its territory on October 4, 2020.
“At the request of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Moldova of September 29, 2020, for the extradition of the former Democrat Party of Moldova leader, the competent authorities of Turkey communicated that the character is no longer on their territory.
Through an official response, sent through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the Turkish authorities informed us that the citizen Vladimir Plahotniuc left the Republic of Turkey on October 4, 2020.”
Vladimir Plahotniuc was put on the wanted list, in absentia, after prosecutors charged him on three counts: set up and leading a criminal organization, scamming, and money laundering, committed in unusually large proportions. In June 2020, Prosecutor General asked the US authorities to extradite Plahotniuc.
Oligarch Plahotniuc fled Moldova in June 2019, after his party, PDM ceded the power to the governing coalition formed by the Bloc ACUM and PSRM, that later on collapsed in November 2019.
