The U.S. Embassy in Moldova Confirms the Fugitive Vladimir Plahotniuc’s Departure From the United States
Former leader of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM), Vladimir Plahotniuc, cannot return to the United States after leaving the American city Miami at the end of August 2020.
The US Embassy in Moldova confirmed that the fugitive Plahotniuc left the U.S. on August 28 and cannot return to this country.
The American Embassy stated for a Moldovan television: “The US Embassy in Moldova confirms that Vladimir Plahotniuc left the United States voluntarily on August 28, 2020. The Secretary of State denounced in January 2020 under Section 7031 (c) of the State Department Budget Allocation Act, foreign operations, and associated programs. Due to his involvement in significant acts of corruption, Mr. Plahotniuc is not eligible for entry into the United States.”
ZdG checked the history of Vladimir Plahotniuc’s travels after Our Party leader, Renato Usatii, wrote on his Facebook page that Plahotniuc had recently left for Turkey.
Vladimir Plahotniuc deserted Moldova in June 2019, after the party he led, PDM, ceded the government to a coalition formed by the NOW Bloc and PSRM, dissolved in November 2019. Following Plahotniuc’s departure from the country, several criminal cases have been initiated on his name. In March 2020, the US Embassy in Chisinau confirmed that Plahotniuc is in the United States.
On May 22, the judges accepted the Prosecutor General’s request and issued a 30-day arrest warrant for tycoon Vladimir Plahotniuc.
The Prosecutor’s Office applied the preventive measure in the unjustified absence of Plahotniuc under criminal investigation.
