Several hundred protesters gathered on the Grand National Assembly Square on August 23. The protesters demand the resignation of Moldova’s President Igor Dodon, but also of the Prime Minister Ion Chicu.
The event was also attended by veterans who have organized several protests in recent months.
During the protests, several veterans voiced their
“We are not affiliated with any party. We are sympathizers of many parties. When the country is on fire and in danger, civil society must be here. The poverty, the misery, and the president who sells us brought us here. Down with the traitor! Veterans who fought for this country deserve more,” said veteran Constantin Covrig.
A farmer from Ștefan Vodă, the south of Moldova, claims that the government lied when it said that an agreement had been reached with the farmers. He also says that the authorities do not take the drought issue seriously.
Former Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta also participated in the protest.
The unaffiliated deputy Octavian Țîcu stated that Moldova must opt for the reunification with Romania.
“As long as we continue to invest in this independence that suits only Russia, we will have only deputies like Vladimir Plahotniuc, Vlad Filat and presidents like Igor Dodon, who will want to come to power, to make their ministers politicians and to pursue their interests,” stated Țîcu.
