Moldova’s Industrial Production Registers a Decrease for the First Half of 2020 Compared to the Same Period in 2019
The Bureau of Statistics mentioned that industrial production decreased by 7.2 percent in June 2020 compared to the same period in 2019.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, in June 2020, industrial production decreased by 7.2 percent compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.
In January-June 2020, production in the extractive industry decreased by 7.4 percent compared to the same period of 2019. At the same time, the manufacturing industry decreased by 7 percent. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the production of the companies in the food industry increased by 9.8 percent in the first six months of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019.
During the first half of 2020, the production in the beverage industry decrease by 8.7 percent, while the production in the manufacture of textiles decreased by 20.7 percent, and the manufacture of clothing decreased by 18 percent compared to the same period in 2019. Manufacture of paper and paper products remained at the same level, and the production of substances and chemicals increased by 34.8 percent.
At the same time, during the first half of 2020, the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations increased by 3.7 percent, and the production of rubber and plastic products increased by 2.2 percent compared to the same period in 2019. In the metallurgical industry, the volume of production decreased by 5.6 percent. In the metal products industry, excluding machines, machinery, and installations, the production decreased by 3.7 percent, and the manufacture of computers, electronic and optical products decreased by 39 percent.
The manufacture of electrical equipment decreased by 35.7 percent. The anufacture of machinery and equipment decreased by 29.5 percent, and the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers, and semi-trailers decreased by 39.9 percent. Furniture manufacturing decreased by 12.2 percent.
The production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water decreased by 7.2 percent.
Previously, the National Bureau of Statistics of Moldova stated that from 2018, it will no longer provide data on the dynamics of production of tobacco products, petroleum products, because this information is considered confidential.
