A Criminal Investigation Officer from Rîșcani District Was Detained While Allegedly Taking a Bribe of 5,000 Euros
The General Prosecutor’s Office announced that a criminal investigation officer of the Rîșcani District Police Inspectorate was detained when he was receiving 5,000 euros from a man.
On July 29, a criminal investigation officer of the Rîșcani District Police Inspectorate was detained when he was receiving 5,000 euros from a man.
According to the communiqué, the policeman was to cover up the criminal trial, in which the man was being investigated for an alleged robbery and driving while being drunk in exchange for this amount.
The detention took place on the route near the village of Zăicani, Rîșcani district, the north of Moldova, and was a joint operation of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, jointly with the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
For passive corruption, the legislation provides from five to ten years imprisonment with a fine of up to 20,500 euros (400,000 lei) and deprivation of the right to hold certain public positions or to exercise a certain activity for a term of seven to ten years.
