Friday, March 14^th, a Mitsubishi with registration number ST MJ 777, which belongs to Court Straseni drove Mihail Gavrilita, president of the court, to the General Assembly of Judges. On Monday, March 17^th, the same car drove to a timber from Straseni, which belongs to the son of the judge, immediately after ZdG discussed with employees from there.

Mihail Gavrilita, President of Court Straseni, officially has two houses and two lands . On Monday, March 17^th, ZdG went to Straseni to document about the wealth, business and criminal cases of magistrate’s family. In addition to those stated by the judge, his family owns an orchard in the village Ghelauza, a timber, and have previously administrated a wedding hall in the same city.

Court’s car and the track of journalists

Although not shown in the income statement of Mihail Gavrilita, ZdG found out that his family owns a timber in the city Straseni. At the spot, we found dozens of trees and several workers. To check the information that we had, but also to find out from where the wood is brought, we entered into discussion with the workers there, whom we announced that we would like to buy wood. They refused us, telling us that, in fact, the wood is brought to them ​​and it’s not for sale”. There are guys that bring it to us. But, they do not bring to anyone”, they told us. The discussion was interrupted after a car arrived, Volkswagen, with registration numbers CU AJ 646. After we took some pictures, we went to Straseni Court. On the way, we noticed that the court’s car, which a few days ago drove Mihail Gavrilita to General Assembly of Judges, bundle to timber. We turned back and found the car right there. We approached, we photographed the moment, just that no one of those who were there came to talk to us, contenting themselves by prohibiting photography by shouting obscenities from distance.

We went back to the court again, and right after us, two men got into the Volkswagen with license plate CU AJ 646, following us for several minutes, including when we stationed near the Court, and then, near the headquarters of the Prosecutor. To note that, the timber is registered in the name of the judge’s son, Ion Gavrilita, and his wife, Natalia Gavrilita. It is managed through individual enterprise “Gavrilita Ion”, founded in 2011.

To note that, in 1997 the son of the Court President of Straseni, Ion Gavrilita had opened a criminal case on his behalf, after he death blow Maria Bleandura, near Straseni District Council headquarters, where now stands a cross in memory of deceased. Shortly after the accident, the criminal case was dismissed. Some people from Straseni say that the judge’s son was then intoxicated and that only his father’s influence saved him.

Bribe on chain groom/father-in –law

Mihail Gavrilita, judge since 1979, and from 1990 in Straseni, lives in a modest house, in the city, of which he owns the fifth part. Not as modest is the home of his daughter, Mihaela Gavrilita – Grosu, who at the age of 26 years is living in a building of millions on Miorita Street, neighboring prosecutor of Straseni, Alexandru Rata and several local officials. She graduated last year the National Institute of Justice (NIJ ) and activated a period of time at her father’s Court, now being engaged at Buiucani Court. Recently, she has not passed a competition to be appointed as a judge. Mihaela is married, since October 2006, with Mihail Grosu, a former traffic policeman from Straseni, currently Inspector of Police Patrol in Chisinau.

Grosu was caught red-handed and arrested by officers of the Anti- corruption for traffic of influence in June 2006. According to Buiucani judgments of 14^th of September 2006, defendant Mihail Grosu, together with a colleague, found driving, drunk, the citizen V. Mereuta, and asked from him, including at Straseni courthouse, 300 USD, threatening him, that if he does not give the money, will be penalized with 15 or 30 days of arrest. Grosu then claimed that has influence on the judge that will review the case and that can determine him not to apply the arrest. The same day, the case was considered by his father-in-law, Mihail Gavrilita, Mereuta being fined only with 15 conventional units, ie 300 lei. The next day, Grosu again requested money from Mereuta, in the amount of 250 USD, noting that influenced the judge to not apply the measure of arrest. A few days later, under the control of anti-corruption officers, in a bar in Chisinau, Grosu have been passed 200 USD, being caught in the act. In court, he fully admitted his guilt, repented of those committed, saying that, in fact, Mereuta insisted on being helped. Finally, Grosu was not punished criminally. Judge Iurie Bejenaru, back then at Buiucani Court has only imposed a fine of two thousand lei, and shortly, Grosu returned in MIA structures.

“Do I need adventures?”

We went to Court Straseni, where we held a dialogue with the President of the Court, Mihail Gavrilita. He told us about his daughter who is aspiring to judge position, and his son’s criminal case. We present below dialogue with President of Straseni Court.

ZdG : We want to talk about the Court’s car. We were at the timber, and in a few minutes, the car arrived there. Do you know why did it come?

Mihail Gavrilita: I was here. Yes he lives in those houses, with nine floors, if you’ve noticed …

ZdG : The driver?

M.G.: Yes

ZdG : But the car came right on the territory of the timber.

M.G.: For this, he will be punished. If my car has been there, as it shouldn’t be there. Yes, it’s the Court’s car, but what was it doing there, I’ll clarify .

ZdG : But what was he doing there, if the driver is not related to the timber?

M.G.: You are asking me, I will ask him. Hey guys, do not search on me …

ZdG : But the wood business is your family’s ?

M.G.: It’s my sons. It’s his and I do not get involved. Hey guys, I know all that, you think I don’t?  Do I need adventures? Do you think I do not know, and I do not stay away, I do not guard? Look at me (he pointed to his head, to gray hair, no) . I have another year, do I need to get ashamed? I do as a prosecutor, but I do not want to do like him (referred to the statement of Alexandru Rata, Straseni prosecutor, who said he has several loans taken from the bank, no) but my son has so many credits on his ass …

ZdG: Didn’t you help him?

M.G. : Hey guys, he comes to me and asks coins for cigarettes. Male of 40 years.

ZdG : Do you have any connection to the house of weddings?

M.G. No, not me, my daughter had, but no longer. When she entered the Institute ( INJ , no) she dropped it. It was a lease agreement. I told her not to extend, as again problems.

M.G.: That was in 1997. The cross was put there, by my wife … It was a tragedy for that family, and for my family. Yes, Vaniusa, my son made a road accident, a criminal prosecution was instituted. It has been ranked due to the lack of offense. The auto – technical expertise was done.  He was not drunk at the wheel. He had no speed, nothing. The brake refused and that’s it … he hit her.
