Several Ambassadors of the European Union (EU) member states to Moldova congratulate Moldova’s citizens on Europe Day.

The ambassadors of Poland, Austria, Romania, Sweden, Germany, Latvia, Italy, the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Spain wished happy Europe Day to Moldovans in Romanian, Russian and English language.

The ambassadors claimed that Moldova is part of Europe and has to follow a European path. They assured that the EU will maintain its assistance and continues supporting the democratic reforms in the country.  The EU and the EU member countries remain solidary friends, especially now during the coronavirus crisis.

May 9 marks the historic day on which the Schuman Declaration was signed. In a speech in Paris in 1950, the then French Foreign Minister, Robert Schuman, proposed the establishment of a new form of political cooperation in Europe that would forever rule out the possibility of a new war between the nations of Europe.

His vision was to create a European institution that would centralize and manage coal and steel production. A year later, the treaty was signed which provided for the creation of such an organization. Robert Schuman’s proposal is considered to be the cornerstone of the European Union.
