The Authorities from the Breakaway Transnistrian Region Prohibit the Cars Registered in Moldova to Cross the Border with Ukraine
The authorities from the breakaway Transnistrian region prohibited the cars registered in Moldova to cross Ukrainian border checkpoint, situated on the territory controlled by the authorities from the breakaway region. The measure came as a response to the restrictions imposed by the Moldovan authorities.
Moldovan Border Police said that they ceased applying the temporary exception regarding the control measures of auto vehicles from the breakaway Transnistrian region, on January 10.
Although on January 14, the sides involved in the Transnistrian settlement process met in the 5+2 format, none of the parties brought up the issue.

Several days later the so-called Ministry of Internal Affairs of the breakaway Transnistrian region, stated that from January 24 the cars registered in Moldova will be prohibited to cross the Ukrainian border checkpoint, situated on the territory controlled by the authorities from the breakaway region.
This measure will remain in place until the restrictions imposed by Moldova on Transnistrian cars will be lifted.
President Igor Dodon discussed with Vadim Krasnoselskii, the leader of the breakaway Transnistrian region, deciding to identify solutions avoiding the worsening of the situation related to transport circulation and possible difficulties for the citizens.
The head of the O.S.C.E. mission, Claus Neukirch mentioned that the recent events may negatively affect the freedom of movement of the population residing on both banks of the Nistru river. He also added that the O.S.C.E. actively continues their mediation efforts, mentioning that he remains confident in what concerns the responsibility and reason of both parties.
