President Dodon Makes Second Visit to Brussels
Igor Dodon is making his second visit to Brussels as President of Moldova, on September 4. In Brussels, he will have meetings with several officials from the E.U., N.A.T.O. and the Senate of Belgium.
According to the European Commission, President Dodon will meet with the E.U. High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, as well as with the European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Policy, Johannes Hahn.
When contacted by telephone prior to the visit, Carmena Lupei, principal consultant in the protocol and communication section of the President’s office, said that she would share details about the trip later.
A September 4 press release from the Presidency then confirmed that the President is making a two-day working visit to Brussels.
According to the press release, during the visit, President Dodon will discuss the agenda of bilateral and multilateral relations with David-Maria Sassoli, President of the European Parliament; Federica Mogherini, E.U. High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy; Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations; Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary-General David McAllister, President of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament; Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the European Commission for the Energy Union, and Sabine Laruelle, President of the Belgian Senate.
During these meetings, multiple questions will be addressed regarding the implementation of reforms in Moldova, the development of economic and commercial cooperation with European partners, the energy agenda and regional security, among other things.
During his three years in office, President Igor Dodon has made about 40 working visits abroad, 46 percent of which were trips to the Russian Federation.
On September 2, Igor Dodon made a one-day working visit to Moscow, where he met with Dmitri Kozak, special representative of the Russian Federation President for the development of trade-economic relations with Moldova, as well as with the Chairman of Gazprom’s Board of Directors, Alexey Miller. In Moscow, the President discussed the development of Moldova-Russia economic-trade relations and collaboration in the energy field.
President Dodon has made only one working visit to Brussels, in February 2017. The head of state has yet to make an official visit to Romania. However, in an interview for Der Spiegel, the President mentioned an upcoming visit to the United States.
