U.S. National Security Adviser Arrives in Chișinău
The U.S. national security adviser, John Bolton arrived in Chișinău this morning, on August 29. In Chișinău he met with Prime Minister Maia Sandu, and discussed about recent economic developments and policies promoted by the local authorities to maintain stability in the country and ensure good governance.
During the meeting Prime Minister Sandu spoke about the Government’s firmness in implementing structural reforms and thanked the U.S.A. for its support in strengthening the rule of law.
The two officials also discussed about the fortification and modernization of the security and defense sector, which, according to the Prime Minister, has a direct impact on ensuring Moldova’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“This year we will negotiate a new Individual Action Plan of the Moldova-NATO Partnership and move on to the second phase of the Defense Capacity Building Initiative for the Republic of Moldova. Only in this way can we contribute to the consolidation of military capabilities and to the strengthening of the national security system, capable of managing both conventional and hybrid threats,” Prime Minister Sandu said during the meeting.
John Bolton reconfirmed the U.S. determination to continue working with our country in areas such as justice reform, the fight against corruption and money laundering.
“On behalf of the U.S. Government, I assure you that you have all our support to fight corruption, an extremely important goal for potential investors and business partners in the United States. Your success in this field will have serious implications for Moldova, but also for partnerships with other countries of the world, “ John Bolton said during the meeting.
At the same time the U.S. National Security Adviser mentioned that this meeting, with the new government is a good opportunity to discuss about tightening the Moldova-U.S. relations.
On August 27, John Bolton was on an official visit to Kyiv, and from Chișinău he will leave for Minsk, where he will meet with President Aleksandr Lukashenko.
