Ion Ceban’s first statements after winning his second mandate as mayor of the capital: “I will be the mayor of everyone, absolutely of everyone”
“I want to assure you that I will be the mayor of everyone, absolutely of everyone,” Ion Ceban said at the first press conference held on Monday, November 6, after the presentation of the final preliminary data showing that the mayor took a new mandate, from the first round of elections.
“I want to thank everyone who came out to vote and I want to assure you that I will be the mayor of everyone, absolutely of everyone, and I have taken and will continue to take note of those remarks you have made, those criticisms that are constructive, those proposals that are also from some counter-candidates (…).
I want to assure all those who were interested in the financial situation of the municipality. Today in the accounts we have almost 300 million lei, which is an extraordinarily good indicator in these rather complicated conditions.
I want to thank everyone who was at the polling station, because we had deliberately organised shenanigans. All of this has been documented, at every polling station where we have had attempts to rig the election, all the materials are in evidence including video and challenges. They will be forwarded to the international observation missions and the competent bodies in Chisinau (…).
Roads, sidewalks, parking lots, what concerns the courtyards of residential blocks, I said it will be a priority in this mandate”, said Ion Ceban, at the headquarters of the party he founded, National Alternative Movement (MAN).
Former socialist Ion Ceban won his second term as mayor of Chisinau with 50.62%, or 132 802 votes.
His opponent, Lilian Carp, won 28.23%, or 74 074 votes.
The new Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) will consist of representatives of seven political parties. The preliminary results published by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) show that the National Alternative Movement (MAN) and the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) won 20 seats each in the 5 November general local elections.
The Party of Socialists of Moldova (PSRM) could win 6 seats for municipal councillors and the Party of Communists of Moldova (PCRM) – two seats.
