How likely is Moldova to join the EU by 2030?
“Moldova will join the European Union and this must happen by 2030,” President Maia Sandu told tens of thousands of people gathered on May 21, 2023 in the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN) at the “European Moldova” National Assembly. ZdG asked a lawyer, an economist and a political analyst how feasible this prediction is.
“Maia Sandu when she named this date, I think she based it on the unofficial talks she had with European leaders. We can see that the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, came last month with the same date, with the same perspective”, said Valeriu Pasha, political analyst.
“I believe that Moldova will become part of the European Union if there is political support for this idea at the national level in Moldova. Political support depends on the parties that promote this pro-European idea and are in government. And it depends on their performance and the way these parties will be selected in the next elections”, says Vadim Vieru, a lawyer.
“I think it is real that by 2030, Moldova will become an EU member, but it depends on the whole country. We need to work, we need to make a general order, we need to change the views of many citizens who still do not understand that this is the only perspective of existence and development of the country”, said Viorel Chivriga, economist.
