Trial of Marina Tauber MP postponed again
After the Buiucani Court of Chisinau admitted the prosecutor’s request to extend the preventive measure of judicial control against the defendant Marina Tauber and ordered the extension of the measure for another 60 days, the defense requested a postponement of the court hearing. The request was granted and the hearing was adjourned to 27 October 2023 at 14:00.
According to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA), the state prosecutors requested the dismissal of the application as unfounded, on the grounds that no working hearing has taken place since the case was sent to trial on 19 June 2023 and in the context that, according to the Code of Criminal Procedure, the trial of criminal cases concerning corruption offences is to be held as a matter of urgency and priority. Notwithstanding these facts, the court granted the defence motion and adjourned the trial.
On 19 June 2023, the criminal case against Marina Tauber and the legal entity, the political party ,,Șor”, declared non-constitutional, was sent to trial, charged with four counts of falsifying reports on election campaign and political party financing and accepting illegal financing from an organized criminal group.
The first court hearing took place on 29 June 2023, during which the prosecutor’s request to extend the preventive measure, house arrest, was examined. As a result of the examination of the request, the judge of the Buiucani Court of Chisinau admitted the request in part and ordered the extension of the defendant’s house arrest for 20 days.
On 17 July 2023, another court hearing was held to examine the prosecutor’s request to extend the house arrest of Marina Tauber for a period of 30 days, but the judge of the Buiucani District Court of Chisinau rejected the prosecutor’s request and ordered that the measure be replaced by provisional release under judicial supervision for a period of 60 days.
At the previous hearing on 17 July 2023, at the request of the defence, the court granted them time to acquaint themselves with the case materials and to prepare for the preliminary hearing. However, at the hearing set for 13 September 2023, they requested additional time and postponement of the hearing.
