Three days after his return to the Government, Andrei Spinu announces that “there is no evidence to the accusations” about accounts he did not declare
Andrei Spînu announced on Thursday, July 20, three days after returning to his post as Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, that the National Anti-Corruption Centre (CNA) “has officially responded that the accusations of thieves about his so-called bank accounts are lies” and that “there is no evidence”.
This is about the September 2022 denunciation addressed to the Prosecutor General’s Office by former fugitive MP Ilan Shor, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Chisinau Court of Appeals, regarding Spînu’s alleged illegal actions and his criminal liability for illicit enrichment and false statements.
“During the verification of the facts exposed, the information regarding the holding of bank accounts in OCBC Wing Hang Bank subsidiary of Oversea Chinese Banking Corporation of Singapore by Spînu Andrei, Moresense Partners LLC and Focus Marketing LLC was not confirmed.
Given that no evidence was provided during the investigations that would confirm the facts alleged in the complaint, on 19.07.2023 the conclusion on the completion of the examination of the case was issued,” reads the document published by Andrei Spînu.
On Wednesday 29 March, the fugitive MP announced on his Facebook page that the deadline for examining his “denunciation” had been extended by the CNA.
Andrei Spînu then reacted on Facebook to Ilan Șor’s statements. Since 2021, Spînu said, “exponents of fugitives in public institutions” have blackmailed him, interrogated him at the ministry, attacked him at “all state law institutions” and opened files on his activity.
“Friends, fugitives and thieves in the country, in cahoots with the law enforcement bodies of the country continue to publicly attack me. I repeat, they do it in cahoots with the law enforcement agencies. It is clear to me why they do it. Since the first days of my government (in summer 2021) I have been talking that people who worked together with the Plahotniuc regime should not participate in the reform of justice, or any other kind of reform in this country. I did it publicly, but I did it specifically in the government team.
Since 2021, exponents of fugitives in public institutions have blackmailed me, interrogated me at the ministry, attacked me at all state law institutions, sent me masked men home and opened files on my work.
People who served Plahotniuc in the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, the NAC, the General Prosecutor’s Office, the SIS, people who participated in the expulsion of Turkish teachers from our country, people who in their careers have worked only on political cases should have been removed from office in the first days of government. I hope this will happen from now on. This is no longer possible.
Society has earned its freedom from oligarchs and thieves very hard. Their exponents are still in the institutions and they must be removed as soon as possible. I have nothing to hide, I have done and will do my work honestly. To be clear, I will always demand transparency and any suspicion to be investigated head on. P.S. I know you are waiting for names and surnames, I will give them in due course. Until then I hope that those concerned will self-investigate and leave”, said Andrei Spînu.
Andrei Spînu returned to the helm of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development after almost six months. He was part of the Gavrilița government, which announced its resignation on 10 February 2023. Until now Andrei Spînu has held the position of Secretary General of the Moldovan President’s Apparatus, a position he also held in 2020.
