Dorin Stratulat, sentenced to 11 years in prison for the murder in Straseni. Prosecutors have appealed against the sentence as too lenient.
The court set on June 29, 2023 the sentence of 11 years in prison, with the execution of the sentence in a closed penitentiary, for Dorin Stratulat, found guilty of the Strășeni murder.
The court also ordered the recovery from Stratulat’s account of the sum of 540 317 lei for the benefit of the injured party’s successor in respect of material and non-material damage, and legal aid costs of 15 000 lei. The sum of 64 650 lei was charged as legal costs.
Today, 12 July, prosecutors from the Strășeni District Prosecutor’s Office appealed against the sentence to the Chisinau Court of Appeal, asking for a harsher penalty, namely a 20-year prison sentence.
According to the indictment, Dorin Stratulat, “acting with direct intent, aware of the harmful nature of his actions, on 08.08.2022, at approximately 01. 00, being at his home located in the outskirts of a village in the Strășeni district, following a conflict between him and a man, showing particular cruelty, fired six shots with a firearm in the direction of the victim, thus causing wounds in the region of the ribcage and other bodily injuries, which led to his death.”
Afterwards, in order to hide the traces of the crime, he transported the victim’s body to a forest strip, where he buried it.
Stratulat’s pre-trial detention order was upheld by the court pending sentencing.
On 24 August 2022, the Moldovan police announced that they had been informed by the Romanian authorities of the detention in Bucharest, at around 1.30 a.m., of the main suspect in the Strășeni crime, Dorin Stratulat, son of former policeman Ion Stratulat, who at that time was reportedly wanted internationally by Moldovan prosecutors for arrest and extradition.
