Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala: “We will open an office for a Czech military attaché in Moldova”
Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala announced on Friday, June 2, that an office for a Czech military attaché in Moldova will be opened in August, in order to further deepen “bilateral and defence cooperation”. Czech companies are well equipped to help Moldova modernise its defence forces, the EU official said. The statements were made at a joint press conference with Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean: “(…) Yesterday, together with all our friends, we went to Bulboaca to build a united Europe, a Europe that can face all challenges. Moldova benefited from the support of the Czech Republic in the process of obtaining the status of candidate country. Thank you, Prime Minister, for helping to strengthen Moldova’s capacity to deliver on the nine conditions for EU membership and we also appreciate the Czech Republic’s support for Moldova to move to the next stage and start accession talks”.
Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala: “I was really pleased to meet the Prime Minister this morning. I also had the opportunity to meet President Maia Sandu and I was able to express my gratitude. Thank you for receiving us, for this cordial greeting. Thank you for hosting this very successful European Political Community Summit. Truly, for the whole of Europe it was a very important event. I think it is very significant that the second summit took place here in Moldova, a country which is also exposed to the threat of Russian aggression (…).
Obviously, it was not at all easy to organise such an important summit and I am very happy that we were also able to contribute and help you with our experience, but you managed to manage the event very successfully. Coming back to the signal we wanted to send, it was a signal to Russia as well. We all know all the hybrid threats that Moldova is exposed to. We understand that attempts have been made to undermine your sovereignty, and we, on the Czech side, give you our full support in dealing with the threats of Russian aggression in Ukraine, and we have also supported the sanctions regime that has been imposed against people who have direct links with Russia.
The Czech Republic also supported the inauguration of the EU Partnership Mission to Moldova. We initiated this event in the previous days. We attended all the events. We continue to support Moldova’s path towards EU membership. We also support the actions and the support that is provided by NATO in Moldova. We support and appreciate all Moldova’s efforts directed towards the implementation of reforms. We understand that this is not an easy process, but we will continue to offer our friendship to Moldova. We will share our experience that we have gained on our way to EU membership. We know that indeed enormous help has been given to Moldova in these difficult times (…). We agreed that we will continue to deepen this cooperation in the economic field, but also in the field of defence and security. Czech companies are well equipped to help Moldova modernise its defence forces. We know that Moldova, indeed, is now on the way to modernise its defence, its security. We know that a new radar for surveillance of Moldova’s airspace is to be installed. In August we will open a new office for a Czech military attaché in Moldova, so that we can further deepen bilateral cooperation in the defence field as well. This will also make the exchange of information in this area easier.”
The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, arrived in Chisinau to attend the European Political Community Summit held on Thursday, June 1. Together with other European leaders, the Czech official addressed “topics related to energy stability and resilience, sustainability of European states and joint efforts to achieve peace in the context of the war in Ukraine,” according to the European Political Community Summit Security News Media Group.
As the country holding the rotating EU Presidency, the Czech Republic supported in July 2022 the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council initiative to establish the EU Security Hub for Internal Security and Border Management of Moldova, which strengthens the internal security of Moldova and the EU.
The Czech Republic has also provided financial assistance to Moldova for the destruction of dangerous pesticides and chemicals in our country with the aim of strengthening environmental security and public health. At the same time, Moldova has received financial support for the reduction of energy vulnerability, which was used to pay compensation for energy resources.
