Voted in first reading: Mechanism for the selection, evaluation and disciplinary liability of prosecutors to be amended
The draft law to amend the mechanism for the selection, evaluation and disciplinary liability of prosecutors has been voted in first reading by 56 MPs.
The legislative initiative was drafted by the Ministry of Justice. The main provisions of the document aim at strengthening the independence of the Inspectorate of Public Prosecutors and transferring it from the General Prosecutor’s Office to the Superior Council of Prosecutors (SCP); merging the College for the selection and career of prosecutors and the College for the evaluation of prosecutors’ performance in order to strengthen the mechanisms for the selection and evaluation of prosecutors’ performance; reviewing the composition of the SCP.
The draft law will be proposed for a second reading in the plenary of the Parliament.
