Romania’s President: Moldova will receive substantial aid from the European Union. It is unacceptable to leave Moldova prey to verbal threats from Russia
“It is unacceptable to leave Moldova prey to disinformation, hybrid attacks and verbal threats from Russia,” is the message of Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis in press statements made on Thursday, 23 March, in Brussels, ahead of his participation in the European Council meeting.
“We managed to include a passage relevant to Moldova. Moldova will receive additional, substantial aid, support from the European Union, and we believe this is very important for Moldova, obviously, but also for us and for the whole of Europe.
It is unacceptable to leave Moldova prey to misinformation, hybrid attacks and verbal threats from Russia. This cannot remain so,” said the Romanian President.
On a potential sanctions package against pro-Russian entities in Moldova, Klaus Iohannis said that “discussions continue and will continue until we find common solutions. Romania is very firm on this issue, but, you know, we are not alone and everyone must agree – be careful – everyone must agree to a sanctions package. This is just one facet of what needs to be done for Moldova to get through this difficult phase. There are many other things and I am quite optimistic that we will succeed in increasing European involvement in solving Moldovan problems.”
