Police – 3600 people participated in the protest, Shor Party claim over 40 thousand. 42 reports were issued for violation of public order and security
Police announce that around 3,600 people participated in the protest organized by the Shor Party on Sunday, February 19. On the other hand, the Shor Party claims that more than 40 thousand people demonstrated today in the centre of the capital.
According to the National Police Inspectorate, “thanks to proactive actions prior to the event, law enforcement officers managed to prevent the previously emerging scenario and the intentions of the organizers”.
However, there were cases of violations of the law, especially public order and the aspect of transportation of participants in the event, the police also report.
“Citizens were brought with transport that did not meet the technical standards, despite previous incidents when some vehicles caught fire or were involved in accidents while transporting participants to the meeting. In this regard, 91 irregularities in the passenger transport process were found following checks by inspectors of the National Motor Transport Agency (ANTA) together with the police.”
Also, the organisers of the protest action did not respect the prior declaration on the location of the meeting, changing the location to the square of the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet “Maria Biesu”.
Law enforcement officers intervened even to clear a lane for priority traffic vehicles, as ambulances were called several times and doctors could not reach the applicants.
During today’s meeting, 42 reports were issued for offences against public order and security.
We would like to remind that participants in the meetings must exercise their right to free expression in a peaceful manner, comply with the instructions of the law enforcement officers, the restrictions imposed by the authorities, not to come up with messages inciting aggression, violence or other dangerous actions for the safety of citizens,” the IGP also notes in its press release.
