Appointment of Sergiu Russu as interim chief prosecutor of PCCOCS rejected by the CSP. Prosecutor Victor Furtună selected by the Council
The interim deputy head of the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS), Victor Furtună, will serve as interim chief prosecutor of the same institution. The decision was taken by the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP), which rejected Sergiu Russu’s interim appointment by an order of the interim Prosecutor General.
Anti-corruption prosecutor Victor Furtună was appointed interim deputy head of the PCCOCS in November.
According to the latest statement of personal assets and interests, Victor Furtună earned in 2021 salary income of 335 319 lei from his position as a prosecutor in the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. Last year, he received an allowance of 7603 lei and an allowance of 136 701 lei.
The Furtuna family owns an apartment of 78.2 square metres obtained through an investment contract for the construction of the living space, which is said to be worth 527 666 lei. At the same time, the Furtună family owns an apartment of 78.8 square metres worth 26 313 euros.
Also in his assets act, the prosecutor indicates a Nissan Leaf car worth 100 000 lei and a Renault Megane car worth 84 000 lei.
Sergiu Russu previously served as acting chief prosecutor of the PCCOCS from October 2021 to December 2022.
Russu has been chief prosecutor of the Anti-Trafficking in Human Beings Section of the Prosecutor General’s Office since December.
At the same time, according to a recent announcement made by the CSP, Russu is among three candidates who applied for the competition for the position of head of the PCCOCS.
