A prosecutor from Calarasi, arrested in flagrante delicto for passive corruption

The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA) announces on Friday, December 9, the arrest of a prosecutor from the Calarasi District Prosecutor’s Office on suspicion of passive corruption. He was detained for 72 hours after receiving money under the control of the National Anti-Corruption Centre (CNA) prosecution body and was placed in CNA isolation.
“The criminal prosecution on this case was initiated by the Prosecutor General on the fact of the prosecutor’s actions in the Calarasi District Prosecutor’s Office, manifested in the demand for money in exchange for supporting the application for rehabilitation of the convicted person, which is under consideration by the court. Thus, in order to support the convicted person’s request, he demanded money that was not due to him, without specifying a specific amount,” a statement said.
According to the AP, on December 8, after the issuance of the decision by the Court of Straseni Central Office, the prosecutor “pursuing the purpose of not performing actions in the exercise of his office”, allegedly demanded from the convict the sum of 300 euros, in order not to appeal the decision of the Court of Straseni Central Office, which admitted the convict’s request for judicial rehabilitation and cancellation of criminal record.
The operation to document and detain the prosecutor was carried out by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office jointly with the National Anti-Corruption Centre.
