Former border policeman and a transporter detained by prosecutors for organising illegal migration
Prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS), South Office, together with border guards from the South Regional Directorate, detained on Tuesday, November 29, two persons suspected of organizing illegal migration for several Ukrainian citizens.
According to the PCCOCS, three of them offered a total amount of 16,700 US dollars in order to bring them illegally to Moldova and then to have them legally enter the territory of Moldova in the information system of the state border crossing data.
“Law enforcement officers started investigations in October 2022. The suspect acting as a carrier is 59 years old. After their accommodation, the legalization of their stay in Moldova had taken place, through a former Border Police employee, at the border crossing point “Giurgiulesti-Reni.” He is 42 years old and has recently resigned from his position,” Prosecutor’s Office representatives said.
Pending a court ruling, the persons concerned in the criminal case are presumed innocent by law.
