EBU urges authorities in Moldova to respect journalistsт’s freedom
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU)*┬а today criticised the actions of authorities in Moldova over the past week to restrict reporting from the country. Romanian journalists in particular seem to have been singled out, and either refused entry to Moldova, or have been harassed in the country.
Mr. Jean R├йveillon, Director General of the EBU, declared that,
┬а”There can be no freedom without freedom to inform the public from wherever there is a story to tell. The freedom and safety of journalists must always be respected” ,
he added:
“We urge authorities in Moldova to afford journalists, of every nationality, the freedom to report from Moldova.”
The EBU is committed to ensuring freedom of expression. The EBUтАЩs Members are public service broadcasters who are committed to democracy, and to bringing independent and unbiased information to their audiences from anywhere there is a story to report.
